Re-Using and Recycling
Re-use before you recycle before you dispose
It’s better to re-use than recycle if the equipment is still viable. We can ensure your old computer finds a good home and that your data is appropriately cleaned from the system. Re-use is of course not always an option, in which case we can advise on the best way to recycle your equipment or dispose of it safely.
Donating your old computer to a good cause
BothRealities are proud to say that we are involved in local community projects. We have a relationship with a training centre dedicated to providing technology education to improve the skills and employability of those who need it most. They achieve this aim by working with their students to rebuild and recondition old computers.
These refurbished machines are then sold to those who do not have the budget for a brand new machine. We’ll happily pass on your old equipment to be re-used for this purpose.
Data Security
All computers reused for training have their hard drives wiped securely so that there is no way to retrieve any previously stored data. Should you wish to take even more extreme measures, your hard drive can be removed and destroyed prior to passing the computer on.
Recycling your old equipment
Businesses
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive defines the environmental obligations of businesses involved in the electronics sector. This means that certain businesses must recycle or dispose of electronic equipment in an approved manner and restrict the use of hazardous substances in their products.
If you are an BothRealities customer purchasing equipment through us, we can arrange for the collection of business IT equipment which we are replacing with new kit. If you do not wish the machines to be re-used as described above, we will send these old computers to a WEEE depot where their components will be recycled if possible or disposed of responsibly if not.

Home Consumers
All UK citizens are now responsible for separating electronic waste from their general household rubbish. Any item with the crossed out wheelie bin symbol, must not be treated as general waste. Items such as these should be taken to a recycling centre and disposed of in the appropriate container.
